What is influencer marketing:


Have you ever heard of influencer marketing or influencers? What is it, what does it mean, and who are influencers? Today we’re learning more about what influencers are and what influencers can do for your business.


By definition, an influencer is, “a person or thing that influences another,” (Google). In terms of marketing, Google defines an influencer as, “a person with the ability to influence potential buyers of a product or service by promoting or recommending the items on social media.”


Did you know that there are different types of influencers?!


There are four types of influencers: mega-, macro-, micro-, and nano-influencers. A mega-influencer is usually someone who has more than one million followers on a given social media account. A macro-influencer is generally someone who has between 40,000 to one million followers. A micro-influencer usually has between 1,000 and 40,000 followers. And as you can imagine, a nano-influencer has less than 1,000 followers.


What do influencers do?


Depending on the platform and the influencer, influencers can do everything from post a single picture on their page or their story, write a full blog post or even create a YouTube video about your product or service. You can even set up brand deals with influencers and include a mixture of posts and platforms, several posts to one platform, or professional images that your business can use for further marketing and advertising.


How can influencers help your business?


If you choose the right influencers (influencers who's following is within your ideal customer or client profile), influencers help build brand awareness which can lead to more sales. Some businesses provide influencers with a discount code for their followers to use which helps further encourage more sales. The discount code also helps you track how successful your campaign with that influencer was.
